Our Story
The Big City Parents Organization (BCPO) is a non-profit organization established in 2005 by a group of Big City Montessori parents to address diversity and financial accessibility at Big City Montessori School. These concerned parents noticed that a growing number of families were unable to send their children to BCMS — specifically, families whose tuition was subsidized by Children’s Council of San Francisco (CCSF). Due to funding cuts, these families either had their subsidy benefits greatly reduced, or lost them altogether.
In September 2006, the group became an organization, and achieved federal nonprofit status as a 501(c)(3) organization. The BCPO was originally formed to raise scholarship funds to supplement CCSF vouchers - to bridge the gap between funding still available from CCSF and the actual cost of tuition. In 2020 the BCPO charter was expanded to provide access to financial assistance for any families who approach the organization seeking individual levels of support.
Because BCPO is a 501(c)(3) organization, all donations made to the organization are tax-deductible and 100% of funds directly contribute to funding scholarships for students in need.
Over the years, BCPO has been dedicated to promoting diversity and providing equitable educational opportunities for children from all backgrounds at BCMS. By supporting BCPO through your donation, you can play an active role in advancing this mission and making a meaningful impact on the lives of children who might not have access to quality early childhood education otherwise. Join us in our efforts to foster an inclusive and empowering learning environment at BCMS, and help us build a brighter future for the next generation.
